Put simply, we offer a tour that focusses solely on Historic Route 66 and the people, stories and history, that have made it so very famous.
Route 66 began in Chicago – so too does this tour.
Averaging just 3 hours of driving a day – you’ll spend more time exploring, discovering and talking with the people who live and work across Historic Route 66.

Travelling across Route 66, is all about time over distance – Put simply:

With Gilligans, we spend 21-days specifically travelling from Chicago to L.A – thats just 144 miles a day.
In addition, you’ll spend THREE nights in Chicago before the tour, another free day at the Grand Canyon, along with a THREE night side-trip away from 66 – staying in the Entertainment capital of the World: Fabulous Las Vegas!
This is a tour that covers much more than cars, tail-fins and chrome; burgers and drive thru’s – it’s an outstanding history lesson in American culture, society and progression.
Tour Format:
We arrive in Chicago, to enjoy three nights in the ‘Windy City’. This allows time to adjust to the new time-zome and explore this fantastic city!
Following breakfast, each leg usually starts with a morning briefing to outline the day ahead, we’ll give an overview about the history and stories and let you know about we’re we’ll be stopping.
Departure each day is about 8:30am, and often concludes at the next hotel around 4:30pm. Some days are shorter – others slightly longer.
Time spent driving is approx 2.5-3hrs per day – it’s comfortable, but always busy!
For the first few days, we travel as a group, giving you plenty of time to learn and become comfortable with the Route Book, iPhone and APP we provide.
Once you’re comfortable, you’re given the freedom to drive each leg at your own pace – meeting up throughout the day with your guide to learn about the places, but more importantly the people who call Route 66 home.
The days are busy, there is plenty of arranged stops, but you have the freedom to choose how long you spend at each.
You’ll make new friends and see a side of America you perhaps never knew existed.

- Driver/s must be over the age of 25 and hold a valid full driver’s license from your home country
